Note-taking-
Good readers make notes before, during, & after a
reading.

W's- to gather key information about a subject.
Outline- to help you understand the
organization of what you're reading.
Summarizing- a strategy that helps you
retell the main idea or ideas in a selection using your own words.
Magnet Summary- to help you organize your thoughts
after reading.
Synthesizing- to look at a number of parts
or elements & put them together.
Character Map- understand & analyze a character in a story,play,or novel.
Topic & Theme Organizer-find the theme in a story, novel,
or play.
Cause & Effect- events that happen first
are the causes & the result is the effect.
Venn Diagram- compare 2 characters, stories, poems, settings, essays,
etc.
Graphic Organizers-
a way to "see" the ideas.
Concept Map- organize everything you know about a concept or
idea.
Fiction Organizer- collect key information about a
novel, play, or story.
K-W-L Chart-
what you already know about a subject, what you
want to know,
& what you learned.
Main Idea Organizer- sort out the big ideas & the smaller
ideas.
Plot Diagram- highlights
the 5 main parts of a story.
